Achieving CANSO’s GreenATM accreditation is a significant milestone for any air navigation service provider (ANSP) committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Hot on the heels of supporting Belgian ANSP skeyes and Romanian ANSP ROMATSA with their successful accreditations, Egis’ Joe Cosgrove offers tips for others aiming for the award.
Launched in 2022, the CANSO GreenATM Accreditation programme provides a framework to measure, guide and benchmark ANSPs' efforts in reducing their environmental footprint through the long-term implementation of sustainable practices. Organisations are graded across five levels, starting at 1 (Awareness) and progressing to 5 (Excellence). Both skeyes (2023 & 2024) and ROMATSA (2025) achieved level 3 (Managed), reflecting active initiatives to implement sustainable practices and embed a culture of environmental awareness throughout the organisation. The efforts of both ANSPs are ongoing, and they will continue to progress through the accreditation levels, maximising the beneficial impacts of accreditation. We’re privileged to have accompanied both ANSPs on this journey, helping them with project management, evidence gathering, technical expertise and validating their submissions. So, what have we learned and how can other ANSPs benefit from this?
