Project Description:
This project involved the widening and reconstruction of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard (Pendleton Avenue). The two lane roadway was widened to a five lane section consisting of two 3.6 meter lanes, two 3.3 meter lanes and a 4.2 meter center lane. Concrete curbs and gutters were constructed along the edges of the outside lanes. The intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and 38th Street was also reconstructed as part of this project. Additionally, this project included the relocation of sanitary sewers, water lines and storm sewers, and some force account utility work with the relocation of power lines. Existing traffic signals at 38th Street, 29th Street and Gate No. 4 to the GM property were also modernized. One lane traffic was maintained in each direction throughout the construction project. Additional features included extensive street lighting and grassed medians.
