Project Description:
This project included intersection improvements, reconstruction and widening of approximately 0.75 miles of College Mall Road on the east side of Bloomington, Indiana, from just north of Moore's Pike to just north of 2nd Street. This project also included the construction of 990 feet of 14'-0 x 5'-0 three-sided, precast, concrete culvert for the underground conveyance of Jackson Run Creek and the reconstruction of two bridges (Monroe County Bridges No. 602 and 623). Other items of work in this project included the construction of three signalized intersections, soldier pile retaining walls, concrete sidewalks, a multi-use path, storm sewers, and the paving and striping of the street. This project also included the relocation of a water main and sanitary sewer relocation. For this project, video detection devices were installed in lieu of pavement loops. the traffic signals were interconnected with fiber optic cable to allow future monitoring of traffic conditions by the City of Bloomington's Engineering Services Department. This provided an innovative solution for the detection needed at two bridge structures at the intersection. Interconnection allows for signal synchronization to improve traffic flow through the corridor and for real time remote monitoring of current traffic operations. This project also included new center medians, which were landscaped with donated trees and tulip bulbs. |
